Job Announcement: Research Assistant
Goodwin Simon Strategic Research is a progressive, independent public opinion research firm that conducts cutting-edge quantitative and qualitative research to advance social change. Our research team brings their expertise in politics, public policy, and communications to clients in the public and private sectors, political candidates and ballot measures, public sector agencies, nonprofit and issue advocacy organizations, foundations, and labor unions. Over the last dozen years, we have developed a whole new approach to public opinion research, message development, and message delivery. We work on a wide range of social justice issues both in the United States and internationally.
We are seeking a Research Assistant to support the firm’s partners and senior research directors in our strategic research efforts. This position is based in Oakland at our offices on Franklin Street near the 19th Street BART Station.
Responsibilities include supporting qualitative and quantitative research projects, preparing research presentations, preparing documents for data analysis, proofreading research and client documents, conducting background research, and other project-related responsibilities.
Candidates with a passion for progressive politics and social change will find this role especially meaningful. A background in campaigns, non-profit organizations, or legislative offices is a plus but not required.
The successful applicant will have a college degree, and a minimum of 2-3 years of professional work experience. We cannot emphasize enough how much this job requires strong organizational, proofreading, editing, and multi-tasking skills, comfort working with numbers, and a strong attention to detail. The successful applicant will be able to balance many different responsibilities and meet quick deadlines in a small, hardworking office environment where multiple projects are occurring at the same time. The ability to work independently, and computer skills – including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) – are also necessary.
Salary commensurate with experience. Compensation also includes two weeks of paid vacation, paid holiday leave from December 24 through January 1, company-funded medical insurance, and a significant company-funded contribution to your retirement account. It is our expectation that this position would have the potential to develop over time into a role with more advanced responsibilities. To that end, GSSR would provide professional development and training in a variety of important and relevant skills.
To apply, please send a resume and cover letter to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than January 26. Please, no phone calls.
